Quran Burning as a Christian event?
From the Saudi Gazette: ‘In protest of what it calls a “religion of the devil”, a nondenominational church in Gainesville, Florida, USA, headed by Pastor Terry Jones, plans to host an “International Burn a Qur’an Day” on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks. Pastor Terry Jones says he believes that “Islam is of the devil”; that it is “a religion that is causing billions of people to go to hell”; and that it is a “deceptive and violent religion”.
What Christian minister would condone the burning of the Quran? What Christian minister would preach that Christianity is stronger by preaching hatred of someone else? Would it be a minister who is catering to the ignorance, fears and hatreds of his congregation and wants to be in their good graces and not in God’s. That’s where the money is! This is not Jesus’ way and every Christian knows this, even Rev. Jones’.
Did Jesus denounce other religions or rather did he preach his own faith and attract followers through the truth of his words? Surely the United States (and Florida) is strong enough to withstand whatever threats are thrown against us without our discarding the principles of our own faith.
Let us prey.
